I waited a long time to get into this yummy stamp set, the Cake Fancy stamp set! It’s a carryover item and is now in the new Annual Catalog on page 124. I even put aside my new 2024-25 catty products to make room for this one since I had not had a chance to get into it before now.
Maybe I should have waited a little longer… 😉
Cake Fancy Stamp Set
As the universe would have it, one of my team members was having a bad ‘stamp’ day last week and I was telling her ‘it happens to everyone – don’t give up – you’re too hard on yourself’! And then I find myself having the exact same ‘bad stamp day’!
Since I know it does happen to everyone, I thought I would share a few of the mistakes that I made with this card… and in the end… I am totally fine with it!
- First mistake – the focal image is not centered (I thought I would add the sentiment below the cake, but you’ll see why I had to change that plan).
- Next – (bottom oval) I stamped the first layer in Berry Burst ink and it came out totally blotchy. The ink pad was fairly new (and not a color I go to often) so it was very juicy. It took several attempts to get it to an acceptable image by running a credit card over the ink and having it pool to the edge of the pad. I think this was the third attempt at stamping (with obvious blotching still visible).
- Next – (small arrow) The next layer was stamped in Basic Beige ink but apparently the Berry Burst ink did NOT want to clean off my stamp (after several attempts) and I was left with a very pinkish beige cake layer. TIP: Use your Stampin’ Scrub several times to be sure it’s clean – and then be sure it is completely DRY before attempting to stamp again!
- Next (circle) This one, I can’t even explain! How the Berry Burst blotches appeared again on this last layer is beyond me! Hence, this is where I need to re-think where my sentiment is going!
- Next – (large arrow) Something ended up being smeared in the upper left corner, but thankfully I was able to use an eraser to get it off quickly! (Yay! One for me!)
Okay…now on to the sentiment!
- I wanted to use the Thoughtful Moments Hybrid Embossing Folder (& Dies) for the sentiment (since I wanted something large enough to cover some of these unfortunate happenings) and I inked up the wrong side of the embossing folder before running it through the Cut & Emboss Machine.
- TIP: Be sure you are inking up the side of the embossing folder that has the Stampin’ Up! name on it!
- I could have gave it another try… but I was so done by that point, I just flipped it over, added some mini Dimensionals and decided a totally white ‘celebrate’ sentiment would be just perfect!
As I am sure you can relate, it all works out in the end! The important thing is to not be so hard on yourself and remember – the recipient knows you created this beautiful hand made card for them and appreciates the effort that you put into it and will never – ever see the ‘mistakes‘ that you see!
After all this, I plan to get into this stamp set again very soon! It is too pretty to only have one card from it and that cake image can be used for any special occasion! I’m sure I will get a lot of use out of it now!
My basic measurements for this project:

Most people probably wouldn’t have even noticed. And this is a forgiving stamp set…the artful unevenness lends to blending mistakes. 🙂
But, it does make us all feel better to know that even the professionals have these moments! I’ve found myself having to walk away from a card and come back to it when I’m at this point. And usually, it’s not quite as bad as I thought it was once I have a clear head.
Gorgeous card!
I am so glad that you shared your “mistakes”…….good to know that the experienced stamper has them too!
I agree with you…….somedays it just can be a struggle with a design or stamping……but, walk away or just take a breath & re-look at your design plan. It always seems there is a way to change or cover-up a mistake & sometimes it even turns out better then originally planned!!!! Really!!
It is a great card & anyone would enjoy receiving it in the mail.
Thanks again for giving us all a chance to figure out “mistakes” & come away with a great card.
